Draymond: 'I've gotten the N-word' just like Orioles' Jones

MLB players aren't the only ones subjected to racial slurs during games.

Draymond Green revealed that like Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones, he's been the target of racial insults in the past, and hopes the recent incident at Fenway Park will help put a stop to such abhorrent behavior.

"I've gotten the N-word, all of that. I'd rather not get into (where). A few places, especially being that it is me. Athletes are just not protected in that regard. Maybe something like (the Adam Jones incident) will help," Green told The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears.

Jones revealed following Monday's contest in Boston that he was "called the N-word a handful of times," and had one fan throw a bag of peanuts at him. Boston mayor Marty Walsh and MLB commissioner Rob Manfred have since issued their own apologies, and Jones even received a standing ovation from Boston fans during Tuesday's contest.

Given the racist behavior that athletes are subjected to, Draymond doesn't believe the professional leagues do a good enough job of protecting their players, and hopes that fans will one day be held to the same standards as athletes.

"Cheer for your team. Do what you want. But if I'm playing in the game and you're cheering for your team, it doesn't give you the right to say whatever you want to say to me," Green said. "This is my job, and I can't go to your job and say whatever I want to you. If I went to someone else's job and said whatever I wanted to say, I'd get arrested for harassment. It's a fine line. I don't think any league does a great job of making sure that athletes are protected."
