Ryan Preece: 25-point penalty after Texas
Preece was docked 25 points and received a fine of $50,000 after his contact with Ty Gibbs in last Sunday's race at Texas Motor Speedway, Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis:
The penalty was a bit of a surprise considering that Kyle Busch did not get one for an arguably worse offense in that Texas race. Nonetheless, Preece did make a comment on the radio that he was going to wreck Gibbs if he got back to him. The overall contact did not seem to be that major, but NASCAR must have felt there was clear intent there. Preece now falls from 12th to 13th in the standings and is just 38 points above the playoff cutline. He'll look to put it all behind him at Watkins Glen this weekend.
