Chase Elliott: Third in the Xfinity 500

Elliott finished third in the Xfinity 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

Analysis:

With the playoffs and championship on the line, Elliott would make a valiant effort Sunday at the Virginia short track. The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet started and raced inside the Top 10 all afternoon in this 500-lap short track battle. Elliott could not grab the lead but he would establish Top-5 track position late and hold off Ross Chastain on the final green-flag run to grab a strong third-place finish. However, he would be eliminated from the championship round of the playoffs.
