Carson Hocevar: Making Cup debut at Gateway
Hocevar will drive the No. 7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports in Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway, Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis:
Hocevar will get this opportunity because Corey Lajoie will be taking over the No. 9 car for Hendrick Motorsports on Sunday after Chase Elliott was suspended one race for intentionally wrecking Denny Hamlin. Hocevar was already planning to be at Gateway doing his regularly scheduled Truck Series racing for Niece Motorsports. Hocevar has shown a lot of talent, but has also made a lot of mistakes. The young driver will likely take it easy and hope to earn some respect in NASCAR's top level. Lajoie will be back in the No. 7 car for the following race at Sonoma.
