Royals sign Barmes, Duensing, Ohlendorf
The Kansas City Royals beefed up their depth chart Thursday, announcing minor-league deals with three players: infielder Clint Barmes and pitchers Brian Duensing and Ross Ohlendorf.
Barmes, 36, spent last season with the San Diego Padres, posting a slash line of .232/.281/.353 with three home runs and 16 RBIs across 224 plate appearances.
The versatile defender became a free agent after having his $2-million option declined in November.
Duensing, a 32-year-old left-hander joins the Royals after spending his entire career with the Minnesota Twins. The veteran appeared in 55 games last season and owns a career ERA of 4.13 across 354 games, 61 of which have been starts.
The 33-year-old Ohlendorf turned things around with the Texas Rangers last season after failing to appear in the big leagues in 2014.
After signing a minor-league deal with Texas, the strapping right-hander appeared in 21 games, posting a 3.72 ERA, while striking out 8.8 hitters per nine innings.
