Report: Mariners agree to deal with Gaby Sanchez
The Seattle Mariners' busy offseason continued Friday when the team came to an agreement on a minor-league deal with first baseman Gaby Sanchez, according to sources of ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.
His deal reportedly includes an invitation to spring training. He'll likely compete for a backup role off the team's bench, with Adam Lind expected to start at first base.
Sanchez, 32, spent last season in Japan with the Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Nippon Professional Baseball league, hitting .226/.328/.392 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 232 plate appearances.
The former big leaguer last appeared in the majors in 2014 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and owns a career MLB slash line of .254/.332/.413.
His best season came as a member of the Florida Marlins in 2010, when he recorded 19 home runs and 85 RBIs to go along with 37 doubles.
