Astros send struggling McCullers to minors, recall Straily

The Houston Astros are giving one of their promising young arms a break.
Right-hander Lance McCullers was demoted to the minors after getting bombed for six runs while recording just one out in Monday's 12-9 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Astros manager A.J. Hinch said the 21-year-old hurler may not even throw while in the minors, as they attempt to rest his arm for the stretch run. He will be eligible to return to the big club in 10 days.
McCullers has been a pleasant surprise for the Astros, posting a 5-4 record with a 3.17 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 14 starts.
Houston recalled righty Dan Straily to take McCullers' roster spot. He'll start Tuesday versus the Rangers.
