There could be fireworks on July 31.

The Houston Astros and San Diego Padres are reportedly talking trade in advance of Friday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, and "something big" could be in the works, according to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan. The clubs have talked Tyson Ross and Craig Kimbrel, Passan writes.

The Astros continued to add to their roster Thursday, trading for Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers from the Milwaukee Brewers, creating a bit of a logjam in the outfield in the process.

"We're still talking to a couple clubs about some other players but I don't know how to handicap it at this point," said Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow on Thursday night, after completing the trade with Milwaukee. "We need to take a breather and I need to regroup with (manager A.J. Hinch) ... and figure out where we go from here. We'll probably be busy (Friday) again.

"We're still have until 4 o'clock eastern (Friday). We're not going to promise anything. The only thing we'll promise is we're going to continue to look.

"I love this. It's great. There's time for sleep later. It's great (to be a buyer). It's what this city deserves. This city deserves a playoff team, and we're trying to deliver it as soon as possible."

Jake Marisnick's name has been floated as an outfielder who could be San Diego-bound in a potential trade. He's hitting .235/.272/.370 with five home runs and 27 RBIs, while playing plus defense in center field.

The clock's ticking, and the excitement will end Friday. Stay tuned.
