White Sox's Danks after getting shelled by Twins: 'I stunk'
John Danks summed up his performance Monday in a way that could also encapsulate the Chicago White Sox's season to date.
"I stunk," Danks told reporters following the 13-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
The left-hander allowed nine runs (five earned) off nine hits in 5 1/3 innings to pick up his eighth loss in 14 starts and push his ERA to 5.38.
Danks looked solid through the first three innings, but things unraveled in the fourth. The Twins sent eight men to the plate, with four of them coming across to score.
"Got to get ahead and got to make quality pitches," Danks said of what makes him effective. "I did neither."
The loss sets the White Sox back once again after they were able to scratch a bit of momentum following a pair of wins over the Texas Rangers on the weekend. Chicago sits 11 games back of the division-leading Kansas City Royals and 7.5 back of the wild card.
Danks, the highest-paid player on the team with a salary of $15.75 this season, has dropped all four of his starts this month, and sports a 6.85 ERA and .344 opponent batting average in June.
"It wasn't from a lack of trying, lack of care. Just the game of baseball," Danks said.
