Soto upset with Jays after Judge intentionally walked 3 times: 'It sucks'
New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto wasn't pleased that the Toronto Blue Jays intentionally walked teammate Aaron Judge thrice Sunday.
"It sucks," Soto said following the Yankees' 4-3 win in extra innings, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. "You want him at the plate. I'm doing my best to put him up, and you see them pass him over.
"It just really makes me mad. I don't like that. I want them to challenge him and see what he can really do. It is what it is. It's part of the game. They're trying to win too, so you respect that."
Judge was intentionally walked in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings of Sunday's contest after he smacked a single in the third.
The three free passes came one day after the Jays surprisingly issued Judge an intentional walk in the second inning of Saturday's game. It was the first time a hitter has been intentionally walked in that situation since 1972.
Judge was walked six times in the three-game series against Toronto, with four of them being intentional. He was 5-for-9 with two homers when he wasn't walked during the three-game set.
The AL MVP front-runner is hitting .322/.456/.701 with 41 homers, 25 doubles, and 103 RBIs this season. He leads the majors with 11 intentional walks.
