The San Francisco Giants and free-agent slugger Jorge Soler are in contract talks, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Soler, who hit 36 homers with 75 RBIs and an .853 OPS over 137 games for the Miami Marlins last season, could bolster a Giants team that finished 19th in the majors with a combined 174 long balls.

The 2023 All-Star also recorded an AL-best 48 round-trippers in 2019 with the Kansas City Royals.

Korean star Jung Hoo Lee has been the only noteworthy addition to the Giants' lineup. The club lost outfielder Mitch Haniger in the Robbie Ray trade with the Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Boston Red Sox were also rumored to be in on Soler during the offseason based on their needs for a power bat in a designated hitter/outfield role. However, the Blue Jays brought in Justin Turner, the Mariners signed Mitch Garver, and the D-Backs inked Joc Pederson.

Soler has a terrific postseason resume, as he's gone deep six times with 11 RBIs, 14 walks, and a 1.021 OPS over 87 plate appearances. The 31-year-old was named the 2021 World Series MVP after helping the Atlanta Braves win a championship.
