Report: Gregorius returning to Phillies on 2-year, $28M deal
The Philadehphia Phillies and shortstop Didi Gregorius agreed to a two-year contract, according to Jayson Stark of The Athletic.
The deal is worth $28 million, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Gregorius hit 10 home runs with 40 RBIs and an .827 OPS in 60 games for the Phillies last season.
President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has been busy since the Phillies hired him in December after failing to make the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season. In addition to the reported Gregorius deal, the club added relievers Archie Bradley and Jose Alvarado and reportedly re-signed star catcher J.T. Realmuto.
The Cincinnati Reds were also connected to the 30-year-old Gregorius throughout the offseason.
In a move that's likely designed to clear a 40-man roster spot for Gregorius, Philadelphia traded shortstop Kyle Holder to the Reds for cash considerations.
Holder, 26, was selected by the Phillies from the New York Yankees in December's Rule 5 Draft. The Reds will now have to keep him on their 26-man roster all season, or else offer him back to the Yankees.
