Angels hire Perry Minasian as general manager
The Los Angeles Angels hired Perry Minasian as the organization's next general manager, the team announced Thursday.
Minasian joined the Angels on a four-year contract, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
The 40-year-old executive has spent the past three seasons working as an assistant GM with the Atlanta Braves under Alex Anthopoulos. He also filled various scouting positions with the Toronto Blue Jays over six years before joining the Braves.
Minasian has a track record of being a member of winning teams. He was part of the Blue Jays' staff when they made back-to-back trips to the ALCS in 2015 and 2016. He was also with the Braves when the club recorded three straight division titles from 2018 to 2020.
"His background in scouting and player development along with his unique understanding of roster construction were the leading factors in our decision," Angels owner Arte Moreno said in a statement.
Minasian takes over Billy Eppler's previous role. The Angels fired the latter in September following their fifth consecutive losing season despite boasting a lineup featuring Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, and Shohei Ohtani.
Los Angeles was in contact with several big-name executives but wasn't able to pry them away from their current jobs, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The individuals targeted reportedly included Cleveland Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti, Tampa Bay Rays GM Erik Neander, and Oakland Athletics GM David Forst.
