Report: White Sox in serious trade talks about Quintana
The Chicago White Sox delivered a clear message about what direction they're moving in Tuesday when they dealt ace Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox for a package of prospects headlined by baseball's top prospect, Yoan Moncada.
It appears White Sox general manager Rick Hahn wants to continue to deal and he's already engaged in serious trade discussions about starter Jose Quintana, reports USA Today's Bob Nightengale, who lists the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros as potential landing spots.
The Atlanta Braves are also showing interest in the left-hander, according to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.
Washington and Atlanta were two teams reportedly pursuing Sale before he was traded to the Red Sox, so their interest in Quintana - who posted a lower ERA than Sale last season - isn't a surprise.
PITCHER | GS | IP | ERA | SO | WAR |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Chris Sale | 32 | 226.2 | 3.34 | 233 | 5.2 |
Jose Quintana | 32 | 208 | 3.20 | 181 | 4.8 |
The 27-year-old Quintana is under team control until the conclusion of the 2020 season, with team options in 2019 and '20. He's set to earn $7 million in 2017.
