Prince Fielder, who missed almost all of 2014 after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck, landed on the disabled list Wednesday with another major neck problem - a possible C4-C5 herniation - and could once again require season-ending surgery, Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels told reporters.

Fielder, who underwent an MRI on Tuesday after acknowledging similar symptoms to what he experienced in 2014 the day prior, will get a second opinion from Dr. Drew Dossett - the orthopedic surgeon who repaired Fielder's neck two years ago - on Friday in Texas.

Last year, with his C5-C6 discs surgically fused together, Fielder bounced back with aplomb, hitting .305/.378/.463 (126 OPS+) with 23 homers and 28 doubles en route to the American League Comeback Player of the Year award. Since then, however, Fielder has been one of the worst hitters in baseball, stumbling to a .212/.292/.334 line through 89 games in 2016 while managing the lowest WAR (-1.8) in the majors.
