Martin injures knee during sauna mishap
With just under three months left in the regular season, some of the Toronto Blue Jays are starting to feel the heat in more ways than one.
Starting catcher Russell Martin is set to miss a couple days after injuring his knee in the shower following a lengthy stay in a sauna, manager John Gibbons told Sportsnet's Hazel Mae on Friday.
Martin began feeling light-headed after staying in the sauna for too long, and the backstop slipped in the shower after losing consciousness, injuring his left knee.
"I woke up and I had the shower curtain half on my body and the rest of my head was kind of sticking outside the shower," Martin told The Canadian Press on Friday. "It's a weird feeling."
A precautionary MRI on Martin's knee came back negative, and the catcher is hoping to avoid the disabled list.
Josh Thole will replace Martin in the lineup Friday against the Seattle Mariners.
