Real Madrid nabs Odriozola from Real Sociedad for reported €40M fee
Julen Lopetegui has got his guy.
Real Madrid announced Thursday the signing of right-back Alvaro Odriozola from boyhood club Real Sociedad, reuniting the 22-year-old with the manager who named him to the 23-man Spain squad for the World Cup in Russia.
Odriozola has put pen to paper on a six-year deal with the capital club, switching allegiances after a dozen years with the Basque outfit. According to reports, Los Blancos have splashed in the neighbourhood of €40 million.
"We want to thank Alvaro Odriozola for the professionalism and commitment shown during his stay in our club from his youth years to the first team, at the same time as wishing him the best for his personal and professional future," Sociedad's statement read.
Odriozola's arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu amounts to a saturation of options at right-back for Lopetegui, with Dani Carvajal, Nacho, and Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi all skilled at the position.
