Cherries skipper Simon Francis has had his red card appeal rejected by the English Football Association (FA) following a review by the Independent Regulatory Commision, the FA announced Tuesday.

The incident stems from a foul during Bournemouth's goalless stalemate with Leicester City on Saturday, where Francis was brandished a straight red for a challenge in the penalty area. Foxes playmaker Riyad Mahrez missed the subsequent spot-kick.
Francis will now serve an FA-imposed one-match ban.
