Report: Barcelona yet to rekindle Coutinho interest in January
Liverpool is apparently yet to receive a fresh approach from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho, despite the Spanish club's kit manufacturer Nike advertising the sale of Blaugrana shirts bearing his name.
A report on Tuesday indicated the Reds were prepared to demand £130 million for Coutinho, and Spanish outlets speculated a new bid was imminent. However, BBC Sport's Phil McNulty understands Barcelona still hasn't revived its pursuit of the midfielder in the January transfer window.
Nevertheless, Liverpool is braced for another offer from Barca this month after rejecting three proposals and warding off a transfer request from Coutinho last summer. The final spurned bid was worth £118 million including clauses, prompting Liverpool to raise the barricades with a club statement that said "no offers for Philippe would be considered."
Liverpool hasn't voiced a second defiant stance over Coutinho's future this winter, and McNulty believes a bid larger than £118 million and without various add-ons could be enough for Barcelona to get its man. The fact the star will be ineligible for the rest of Barca's Champions League run hasn't deterred the European behemoth.
Coutinho was a shock absentee on New Year's Day when the Reds required a last-ditch winner to overcome Burnley by a 2-1 scoreline. The Brazilian was in peak form before the trip to Turf Moor, scoring three times and assisting twice in his previous four outings.
According to the Guardian's Andy Hunter, Coutinho will also sit out Friday's FA Cup third-round meeting with city rivals Everton while he undergoes treatment on a thigh issue.
