Report: Abramovich didn't hold talks about Chelsea transfer woes
Reports that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich held late-night boardroom discussions after last Friday's 2-1 home loss to Liverpool are false, according to Sky Sports.
Various media outlets claimed the Russian oversaw an impromptu meeting until the early hours, with the talks primarily prompted by manager Antonio Conte's disenchantment with not being able to land his main transfer targets in the summer. These claims, however, are apparently false.
The Italian gaffer wrapped up business for N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi early in the window, but the well-documented pursuit of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, and an apparent interest in AS Roma's Kostas Manolas, failed to amount to anything.
Instead, Chelsea splurged around £57 million on Marcos Alonso and David Luiz on transfer deadline day, making the club the third-highest spenders over the summer.
Aside from the Liverpool loss, Chelsea has made a strong start to the campaign, recording four consecutive wins with Diego Costa, Eden Hazard, and Willian forging an at-times frightening triumvirate in attack.
The Blues travel to Leicester City in the League Cup third round on Tuesday.
