Wolves' trip to Arsenal postponed due to insufficient number of players

The Premier League postponed Wolverhampton Wanderers' trip to Arsenal on Tuesday because the visitors are unable to meet the requirement of 13 outfield players and one goalkeeper for the game.

"A combination of positive COVID-19 test results and injuries led to Wolves requesting for the fixture to be postponed, which was accepted early to give supporters a two-day notice period," Wolves said in a statement released on Sunday.

Wolves are now set to return to action at Manchester United on Jan. 3, meaning they had an enforced break of over two weeks during the busy festive period.

The Premier League has postponed 15 matches over a period of 15 days beginning Dec. 12 due to a number of COVID-19 outbreaks among its clubs. The United Kingdom isn't reporting daily coronavirus figures on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, but Friday saw a new high of 122,186 cases in the country, according to BBC News.
