Montreal Alouettes star running back William Stanback was carted off the field in the second quarter of Thursday's 30-27 loss to the Calgary Stampeders.

Stanback apparently suffered an injury to his left leg, according to John Hodge of 3DownNation.

The Alouettes reacted to Stanback's ailment on Twitter soon after his exit.

Stanback, who led the CFL in rushing yards last season, amassed just 11 yards on three carries before being sidelined against Calgary. He also caught two passes for 17 yards and one touchdown, Montreal's first score of the new campaign.

The 27-year-old rushed for a career-high 1,176 yards and three touchdowns in 2021.

Jeshrun Antwi replaced Stanback and finished the evening with 98 yards on seven rushing attempts, though 70 of his yards came on the same play in the second quarter.
