In the 85th minute of their final Group Stage match against Japan, Colombia — assured of advancement to the Round of 16 — swapped goalkeepers by substituting in Faryd Mondragon for David Ospina.
With no injury to the starting 'keeper, the alteration would normally raise more than a few eyebrows. However, this was not a tactical substitution. By entering Tuesday's match, Mondragon — at the age of 43 years and three days — became the oldest player ever to compete in a World Cup match.
