Report: NHL changing All-Star voting format next year

The NHL reportedly plans to alter the way its All-Star captains are selected.

"One thing we are going to see a change with is All-Star voting next year," Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday's edition of "Headlines."

"You're going to see a situation (in which) the league decides: is it going to be that the fans just have a portion of the vote - not all of the captaincy votes - or could it just be that there's a list online that you're going to be able to vote from?" Friedman said.

"I think (it's) pretty safe to say we're not going to see the same kind of all out voting that we saw this year and what it resulted in with the captaincies."

The league allowed fans to vote for All-Star captains as part of its new 3-on-3 format this year, and Arizona Coyotes pugilist John Scott was elected Pacific Division captain following a campaign spearheaded by Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports.
