Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie has been suspended three games for his hit on Anaheim Ducks defenseman Simon Despres on Friday night.

The hit forced Despres to leave the game, an eventual 3-0 Avalanche victory, with an upper-body injury.

The Ducks blue-liner has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Wild.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety described the play as both charging and interference, labeling it a late, high hit.
