The NHL trade deadline will reportedly fall on a rare date this season.
It will be Feb. 29, 2016 at 3 p.m. ET, according to TVA's Renaud Lavoie.
Last season's trade deadline was March 2. This time around, it will reportedly fall on the date that would have been March 1 in a non-leap year. Feb. 29, 2016 is a Monday.
The 2015-16 season opens Oct. 7 with the Montreal Canadiens taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New York Rangers facing the Chicago Blackhawks, the Vancouver Canucks meeting the Calgary Flames, and the Los Angeles Kings hosting the San Jose Sharks.
The 2014-15 season began with a four-game slate on Oct. 8, 2014.
