With approximately $30 million in tournament earnings - the highest total in history - Canadian poker star Daniel Negreanu wants to put some of his fortune towards buying a slice of Bill Foley's Las Vegas NHL franchise.

Las Vegas doesn't even have an NHL franchise at the moment, but Negreanu believes there's a strong chance it'll get one, putting the odds of success at "99.9 percent," according to Mike Strobel of the Toronto Sun.

"I just don't see it not happening. We have a solid owner, an arena (nearing completion on the Strip with 17,500 seats for hockey) and we sold 13,000 season tickets," Negreanu said.

"Vegas has 2.2 million people. It's a sports town. We've been starving for a professional franchise of any kind for many years."

Las Vegas could potentially have a team in place for as early as the 2016-17 season.

"It won't take us as long to build a winner as people think," Negreanu said. "I'd bet on the playoffs in four or five years."
