Report: Leafs tell teams to direct trades through assistant GM Dubas
Doing business with the Toronto Maple Leafs might be a little easier heading into next week's draft.
With the Maple Leafs being the only NHL club with no full-time general manager and Kyle Dubas and Mark Hunter reprising their roles as assistant GM's, the team has reportedly told teams to direct all trades through Dubas.
"The Maple Leafs sent out a communique last week indicating any team wanting to talk trade should go through assistant GM Kyle Dubas," Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said in his "30 Thoughts" column Sunday.
The move looks to give specific roles to the team's assistant GMs as Hunter will focus on the team's drafting heading into next weekend.
Friedman suggests some see the move as a possible sign that Dubas could take the reigns as the team's full-time GM, but that it doesn't seem likely just yet.
