Flyers' Hextall says extending Voracek is a priority

Jakub Voracek could have a home for a long time.

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said Friday that the prized forward, who had a career year for the organization, is a priority when it comes to a contract extension, reported Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Voracek, 25, scored 22 goals and added 59 assists for a career-high 81 points, and also accumulated 78 penalty minutes and 11 power-play goals.

The forward is currently in the midst of a four-year, $17-million contract that comes with a cap hit of $4.25 million and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.

Philadelphia is financially strapped from a cap perspective, but if they can somehow part ways with Vincent Lecavalier and his hefty contract, they could free up room for a Voracek extension to take place.
