Todd Nelson's graduation from the American Hockey League has proven to be only temporary.
Nelson, who was named as the interim head coach of the Edmonton Oilers following Dallas Eakins' dismissal, will not return to the club and serve on Todd McLellan's staff, reports Sportsnet's Damien Cox.
He has interviewed for vacant AHL positions with the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, and Pittsburgh Penguins, and is expected to make a decision this week as to his 2015-16 coaching destination.
Nelson helped the Oilers improve their overall play during his short tenure, and did have the opportunity to stay, but moves on with a desire to oversee his own team.
