A piece of the New York Islanders' future is taking off to Sweden.
Forward Johan Sundstrom has signed with Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League, the club announced Friday.
Drafted 50th overall in 2011, Sundstrom spent the past two seasons playing for the Islanders' AHL affiliate, recording seven goals and 12 assists in 72 minor-league games this past season.
The 22-year-old developed within Frolunda's youth system, and appeared in only 11 games for the Islanders over the course of his entry-level contract.
