Penguins prospect Matt Murray sets AHL goaltending record
The Pittsburgh Penguins already possess an impressive starting goaltender in Marc-Andre Fleury, but if they're ever thinking about making a change in the future Matt Murray may be their guy.
The 20-year-old prospect set an AHL goaltending record Sunday by extending his shutout streak to 304 minutes and 11 seconds.
Murray made 32 saves in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' 4-1 win against the Springield Falcons.
He was one minute and 11 seconds away from his 10th shutout of the season and fifth in a row when Springfield forward Dana Tyrell scored in the third period.
Murray erased the AHL record for longest shutout streak of 268:17, established by Barry Brust of the Abbotsford Heat in 2012.
Murray was selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
He is 18-8-2 with a 1.57 goals-against average.
His nine shutouts have tied the AHL's mark for shutouts by a rookie.
