Rob Blake on Maple Leafs GM rumblings: 'I'm set in Los Angeles'
Rob Blake is quite content in California, for the time being at least.
Amid reports he's been tabbed as the preferred choice as the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs by team president Brendan Shanahan, Blake confirmed he's not planning on leaving the Los Angeles Kings - with whom he serves as assistant GM - anytime soon.
"I’m set in Los Angeles for awhile," Blake told Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. "This is a perfect setup for my family. And I've still got a lot to learn. This is the best place to do it."
Friedman continues:
Rob Blake has heard the rumors. That he’s going to Toronto to work with Brendan Shanahan. That he’s going somewhere else to run his own show. He wants everyone to know: not happening.
Blake stressed he did not talk to Toronto, but I don’t think his feelings would be a surprise to them. There’s a sense across the league it would take an awful lot to get him out of Manhattan Beach for the foreseeable future.
Blake, whose No. 4 was retired by the Kings on Jan. 17, has served at his current post since July 2013.
