Penguins' Malkin misses practice Monday, placed on IR

Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin was absent from Monday's practice, the team announced.
The forward, who is tied for third in the league with 51 points, has been placed on injured reserve after missing the All-Star festivities and a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks with a lower-body injury.
The move is presumably retroactive to Jan. 20, when he last played in 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Players on injured reserve must miss a minimum of seven days, according the league's collective bargaining agreement. That would rule him out of Tuesday's game against the Winnipeg Jets, although no further announcement has been made.
