  • It was the fifth consecutive loss for the Maple Leafs and their eighth in the last nine games.
  • Three Leafs sweaters were tossed on the ice, including two that landed during play in the third period. A pair of fans were also spotted wearing paper bags over their heads.
  • Toronto scored just two goals in a five-game span for the first time since January 1929.
  • Hurricanes captain Eric Staal and Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf had a spirited fight in the third period after jawing at each other near the benches earlier in the game.
  • Khudobin earned his fifth win in his last five starts.
  • Jonathan Bernier's night ended quickly, as he was pulled early in the second period after allowing three goals on 13 shots.
  • The Hurricanes had a goal waved off on a controversial goaltender interference call in the opening frame.
