NHL confirms it's investigating Ducks' on-ice activity over holidays
Practice makes perfect, but sometimes it's against the rules.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly has confirmed the league is investigating the on-ice activity of the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 26, according to Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register.
Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, organizations are not allowed to schedule official team workouts over the three-day holiday break.
Ducks general manager Bob Murray has since responded to the report, explaining that hockey operations was not involved in organizing any on-ice workouts and that Ryan Getzlaf paid for both the ice and a local coach to run an optional on-ice workout.
Stephens notes that should the NHL determine there was indeed a violation, the corresponding fine would be quite substantial.
