Wild's Yeo excited about chemistry between Koivu and Vanek: 'I've been really pleased with Thomas so far'
It's still early in training camp, but Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo is very excited about one of the team's new arrivals.
Yeo has offseason signing Thomas Vanek playing on the same line as captain Mikko Koivu and he is a big fan of what he's seen so far, saying Vanek "reminds me a lot of myself" and praising the chemistry between the two veterans.
"We've really started to see some chemistry between Mikko and Vanek that's been fun to watch," Yeo told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "It's been exciting. I've been really pleased with Thomas so far. I have a whole new appreciation for his skill level and how smart he is. I mean, he's thinking usually two or three plays ahead. So that's been fun, and he's been working."
Vanek recorded 68 points in 78 games with three different teams last season. He has 277 goals and 556 points in 663 career contests.
Minnesota opens its preseason schedule on Monday against the Winnipeg Jets.
