The San Jose Sharks have agreed to terms with defenseman Jason Demers on a new two-year, $6.8 million contract, according to Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada. The two sides had been scheduled to meet at an arbitration hearing on July 22.

Demers appeared in 75 games for the Sharks last season, scoring five goals and adding 29 assists. He also posted a strong 54.9 Corsi For rating at even strength, as per Extra Skater.

"Jason has been a solid, offensive defenseman and is coming off a good season," said general manager Doug Wilson, via the team's official website. "His skill set and his age mesh well within our overall group and we're happy to have him signed for two more years."

The deal serves as a significant raise for the 26-year-old, whose 2013-14 cap hit was $1.5 million; Demers will be San Jose's third highest paid defenseman next season, behind Brent Burns ($5.76 million) and Marc-Edouard Vlasic ($4.25 million).
