Schneider signs contract extension with Devils: 'I don't have any interest in bouncing around'

Joe Camporeale / USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils signed goaltender Cory Schneider to a reported seven-year, $42-million contract extension Wednesday, and the 28-year-old appears quite relieved to have found some stability for the first time in his NHL career.

This statement reeks of where he came from, having been previously jettisoned by the Vancouver Canucks amid the infamous goaltending controversy involving Roberto Luongo.

Lo and behold, upon arriving in New Jersey, Schneider found himself largely playing second fiddle to Devils legend Martin Brodeur, which is now a thing in the past for all parties involved.

Schneider's extension will kick in after the 2014-15 regular season, meaning the Devils will lay claim to his services - and his .925 career save percentage - for eight more years.

"We go from one great goaltender to another," said general manger Lou Lamoriello.

Big skates to fill to be sure, but Lamoriello clearly believes Schneider is the man to take up that mantle.
