Stars announce compliance buyout of Aaron Rome

After clearing waivers Tuesday, Aaron Rome was officially bought out of his contract with the Dallas Stars.
General manager Jim Nill used one of the two compliance options under the NHL's collective bargaining agreement to shed his team of the injury-plagued defenseman.
Rome had just one year left on his contract, but with a multitude of NHL-ready defenseman and strict payroll parameters, the 30-year-old was deemed expendable.
The Stars will still have to pay a portion of Rome's salary, but the figure will not count against the cap.
