With the twenty-third overall pick at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, the Colorado Avalanche selected Red Deer Rebels forward Conner Bleackley.

Bleackley took over the rebuilding Rebels this season, being named captain and leading the team in scoring as a 17-year-old. He lacks the game-breaking offensive ability that would make him a top-tier center prospect, but he plays smart at both ends of the ice and never gives up on a play.

Bleackley's ability to handle all situations and his relentless hustle make him a coach's dream. He will probably translate into more of a shutdown role at the pro level, but his intelligent offensive game will keep opponents honest when he's on the ice.
