Expanded video review rejected by NHL general managers
The National Hockey League will not be expanding video review or instituting a limited coaching challenge system next season, after the proposal was rejected at the general managers meetings on Wednesday.
This result isn't a huge surprise. On Monday, the NHL's competition committee - a group comprised of active players, league executives and owners - couldn't reach a consensus on how a limited coaching challenge system and expanded video review might work if the league were to adopt it for next season.
Every other major professional sports league in North America has some type of expanded video review system in place, and Major League Baseball and the National Football League have instituted even more aggressive 'challenge systems.'
Because when one can be more backwards than Major League Baseball, one must seize that opportunity.
