The first 40 minutes of Game 1 on Wednesday were an even affair, with the New York Rangers holding a 22-21 shot advantage over the Los Angeles Kings in a 2-2 tie.

The same could not be said about the third period.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault liked what he saw from his team in the first two periods, but had no explanation for why the wheels came off in the third.

"I'm not quite sure what happened in the third," Vigneault said after the game. "Not sure if it was them being that good or us stopping to move the puck and skate and go north-south. They took it to us in the third."
