With the NHL's involvement at the 2018 Olympics in South Korea appearing less and less likely, the league looks to be zeroing in on an announcement they hope will help dispel distaste and provide hockey fans with the international brand they crave.

The World Cup of Hockey's rebirth will reportedly be staged in Toronto in September of 2016, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston

"The World Cup discussions are being held outside of any talks on future Olympic participation," Johnston writes.

The NHL and NHLPA have reportedly agreed on hockey's mecca for the relaunch, but will conduct a bidding war for future editions, according to the report.

The last World Cup was held in 2004 with Canada defeating Finland 3-2 in the tournament final at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
