Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson's wife, Nicholle, has been diagnosed with cancer, general manager Pierre Dorion told reporters Saturday.

Nicholle is in the early stages of her diagnosis and the family is now in a wait period.

The GM confirmed Anderson will return to the team, but a date wasn't announced.

"We're very proud of Craig and Nicholle," Dorion said Saturday. "He and his wife are dealing with a tremendous issue right now, and for him to be around his teammates ... he's going to be embraced by his teammates and it's only going to help us grow as a family and as a hockey family."

The Anderson family may meet with the media this coming week to address Nicholle's condition. No further updates will come until then.

Given the uncertain timetable, the GM said both Chris Driedger and Matt O'Connor will remain with the team for the time being.

The Senators revealed Thursday that Anderson had left the team for personal reasons.
