Panthers sign Reimer to 5-year contract worth reported $17M

The Florida Panthers have signed free-agent goaltender James Reimer to a five-year contract worth a reported $17 million according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The contract has an average annual valuation of $3.4 million.

The veteran netminder joins a roster that features Roberto Luongo in net, with the latter under contract through to the end of 2021-22 at a cap hit of $4,533,333.

Reimer made the jump to the NHL during the 2010-11 season as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who dealt him to the San Jose Sharks prior to the deadline this season.

For his career, Reimer has posted a save percentage of .914, and his addition solidifies the Panthers' goaltending situation for years to come.
