The next step in the Jacksonville Jaguars' highly anticipated offseason spending spree reportedly involves a significant addition to the offensive backfield.

Jacksonville is expected to sign running back Chris Ivory when free agency officially begins Wednesday, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN, citing a league source.

The agreement can't become official until the new league year begins at 4 p.m. ET, but Ivory's deal is believed to be worth in excess of $6 million per season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Ivory stepped into the featured role for the New York Jets in 2015 and responded with far and away the most productive year of his six-year pro career.

He finished the season ranked fifth among the NFL's leading rushers with 1,070 yards on the ground, carrying the Jets' offense to a top 10 standing in the ground game overall.

His powerful running style will presumably complement the abilities of 2015 second-round pick T.J. Yeldon.

Yeldon started 12 games for Jacksonville as a rookie, recording 740 rushing yards and two touchdowns while adding another 279 yards and one score as a receiver.

Jacksonville will reportedly release veteran running back Toby Gerhart in a roster move corresponding to Ivory's signing.
