Vikings' Zimmer calls out Rams' DC Gregg Williams after late hit on Bridgewater
Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer believes the hit that injured his quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was late and the targeting fired up the hot-tempered coach.
"If we were out on the street, we would have had a fight," Zimmer said before alluding to St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' reputation of encouraging his players to go after quarterbacks.
"I do know that there's a history there with their defensive coordinator," Zimmer said. "I'll leave it at that."
Bridgewater's teammates were also vocal about the play in which the second-year quarterback was giving himself up in a slide when he was hit by Rams' corner Lamarcus Joyner. They indicated that players on the Rams were encouraged to take cheap shots.
"Some of the players on that team are pretty cheap to tell you the truth," guard Brandon Fusco said, according to Brian Murphy of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I kind of hope we play them again."
The hit left Bridgewater unconscious and he will have to pass through concussion protocol before he's able to return. For Joyner's part, he denied attempting to injure anyone, saying he and Bridgewater's families have known each other for a long time.
