Jets' Brandon Marshall says his failed lateral was worst play in NFL history
Brandon Marshall was a revelation for the New York Jets to begin the season, but the five-time Pro Bowler made one of the most baffling plays in recent memory on Sunday.
Marshall lateraled the ball backwards while being tackled during the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets' wideout was seeking extra yardage, but tossed the ball into the path of Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks, who promptly jumped on it for the recovery.
By Marshall's own admission, his gaffe was one for the ages.
"Wrong time to gamble. I was pressing, trying to make a play. Probably the worst play in NFL history," he told reporters post-game.
"I played like crap today, to be honest with you."
Marshall caught ten passes for 109 yards, and scored a touchdown for the third consecutive game. It'll be of little consolation, as the Jets lost 24-17.
