NFL to thoroughly review Steelers' headset complaint

Stew Milne / USA TODAY Sports

The NFL says it will conduct an investigation into the Pittsburgh Steelers' allegations that their coaches' headsets didn't function properly during Thursday's loss to the New England Patriots.

"The coaches' communications equipment, including the headsets, is provided by the NFL for both clubs use on game day," the league said in a statement Friday, according to Pro Football Talk. "The home team is responsible for the installation and maintenance of that equipment. Every team's game day communications personnel are required to work with the NFL communications consultants to ensure wireless equipment is free and clear of interference and address any problems.

"Technological and stadium infrastructure issues of this type happen at many stadiums around the league and whenever there are issues of this nature, we do a thorough review."

It's not entirely clear how the NFL plans to investigate the matter, but it's safe to say it will be performed more quickly than the investigation into "Deflategate."

Headsets cutting out isn't unprecedented in the NFL, but the Patriots have been accused of shenanigans in the past, including videotaping opposing coaches' signals during a game.
